Abstract

Eclogitic rocks were found for the first time in México in several places between Acatlán and Tehuitzingo. The rocks are part of a seemingly ophiolitic complex repeatedely metamorphosed and deformed during the Paleozoic. Microprobe study of the eclogitic minerals permitted the classification of these eclogites within a group associated with metamorphic regimes in ancient subduction zones. The approximate physical conditions obtained for the eclogitización fromthe jadeite content of omphacite and from the mineral parageneses were 11-12 kilobars and 500-550 °C.
