Abstract

At the Cretaceous Huizachal-Peregrina Anticlinorium System is represented by the following litoestratigraphic units: Taraises Formation, Tamaulipas Limestone, Cuesta del Cura Formation, Agua Nueva Formation, San Felipe Formation and Mendez Shale. The begining of the Cretaceous is marked by a transgresion of the sea which corresponds to the change in facies from La Casita Formation to the Taraises Formation. The Cretaceous section in the Huizachal-Peregrina area was deposited in considerably deep-water (upper Bathial). The absence of favusellids and the presence of Plano malina buxtorfi (Gandolfi) during the Albian are evidences supporting the idea that during this time the area was under oceanic conditions contrasting with the same units deposited to the East (Sierras Tamaulipecas) where the Albian rocks correspond to shaIlow neritic deposits. The presence in the Tamaulipas Limestone of breccias made up of large lithoclasts, is an evidence of a tectonic episode in the area.
