 Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to give a summary of available Paleomagnetic data from Mexico, which are related with possible distribution of Tectonostratigraphic Terrains.

Very imponant conclusions are derived from this study. (1) The paleomagnetic data (Mesozoic and Cenozoic) from Mexico are different from those ofUnited States and Canada (North America West Margin) show that the tectonic history of the southern region of the westem cordillera is different from the southem ponion. (2) The Cenozoic data from Mexico diverges from those of North America, suggesting the ocurrence of cou.nterclockwise tectonic rotations. (3) The Mesozoic data does not show a common pattern, because the values of R and F (Rotation an Translation Parameters) vary from site to site, however in the Cretaceous rocks an apparent absence of major tectonic shift was detected. (4) Most of the paleozoic data are similar to those of North América nevertheless the possibility of unknown displacements could exist in the Triassic-Jurassic range.
