SPECIAL ISSUE: Paleosols and ancient societies:

from early humans to the industrial revolution

We intend to publish a special issue on Paleosols and ancient societies: from early humans to the industrial revolution in the Boletín de la Sociedad Geológica Mexicana (BSGM, http://boletinsgm.igeolcu.unam.mx/bsgm/). The BSGM is a completely free access semiannual journal, the oldest strictly peer-reviewed journal on Earth Sciences in Mexico and one of the oldest in Latin America, and is included in the Web of Science, Journal Citation Reports, SciELO, Scopus, and in many other instruments.

The contributions are related on topics which link paleosols to the history of the interactions between humans and the environment. This issue is particularly relevant today as human activities strongly affect the planet. We must therefore aim to improve our understanding of past interactions to better assess the current problems and propose solutions to mitigate human impacts. We expect that the problems of the interactions between the soil mantle and ancient cultures will draw attention of a range of different specialists as paleoecologists, Quaternary geologists, archaeologists and historians.

Both original research papers and original thematic reviews are welcome as full-length papers.

Contributions focused on paleosols from Armenia, Guinea, northern Caucasus, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Germany, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, and Colombia, are so far lined up!

Contributions be written in English, and must adhere to our instructions to authors (http://boletinsgm.igeolcu.unam.mx/bsgm/index.php/instrucciones-instructions). We apply no restrictions with regard to number of pages, number of figures or tables (other than those determined by our valued scientific reviewers and provided that they are meaningful additions), and we do not charge for coloured figures or for any other matter.

Important dates:

• October 30, 2021 – Deadline for manuscript submission.
• November 2021 to January 2022 – Review process period.
• February 2022 to April 2022 – Period for manuscript corrections.
• May 2022 – Final decision. Accepted papers will send to the editorial office.
• August 2022 – publication of the special issue.

The dates above are only tentative and may be corrected depending on the number of contributions to this issue. Any changes in schedule will be notified to all contributors as soon as necessary.

 NÚMERO ESPECIAL: Paleosuelos y sociedades

antiguas: desde los primeros humanos hasta la

revolución industrial

Tenemos la intención de publicar un número especial sobre Paleosuelos y sociedades antiguas: desde los primeros humanos hasta la revolución industrial en el Boletín de la Sociedad Geológica Mexicana (BSGM, http://boletinsgm.igeolcu.unam.mx/bsgm/). El BSGM es una revista cuatrimestral de acceso completamente libre, la más antigua revista arbitrada en Ciencias de la Tierra de México y una de las más antiguas en América Latina, e incluida en Web of Science, Journal Citation Reports, SciELO, Scopus, y muchos otros instrumentos.

Las contribuciones están relacionadas con temas que vinculan a los paleosuelos con la historia de las interacciones entre los seres humanos y el medio ambiente. Esta cuestión es particularmente relevante hoy en día, ya que las actividades humanas afectan fuertemente al planeta. Por lo tanto, debemos tratar de mejorar nuestra comprensión de las interacciones pasadas para hacer una mejor evaluación de los problemas actuales y sugerir soluciones más eficaces para mitigar el impacto humano. Esperamos que la problemática entre el manto del suelo y las culturas antiguas llamen la atención de especialistas de extracción diversa, como paleoecólogos, geólogos del Cuaternario, arqueólogos e historiadores.

Tanto manuscritos producto de investigación original como aquéllos que constituyan revisiones temáticas originales son bienvenidos en forma de contribuciones extensas.

Hasta el momento, existen contribuciones comprometidas sobre paleosuelos de Armenia, Guinea, noreste del Cáucaso, Países Bajos, Rusia, España, Alemania, Kazajistán, México, Argentina, Perú, y Colombia.

Las contribuciones estarán escritas en inglés, y deben de apegarse a nuestras instrucciones a los autores (http://boletinsgm.igeolcu.unam.mx/bsgm/index.php/instrucciones-instructions). No aplicamos ningún tipo de restricción en cuanto a número de páginas, número de figuras o tablas (salvo aquéllas determinadas por nuestros valiosos revisores y siempre que sean adiciones significativas), y no se aplica cargo alguno por presentar figuras a color o por ningún otro motivo.

Fechas importantes:

• 30 de Octubre 2021 – Fecha límite para el envío de los manuscritos.
• Noviembre 2021 - Enero 2022 – Proceso de revisión.
• Febrero 2022 - Abril 2022 – Periodo de modificaciones de los manuscritos.
• Mayo 2022 – Decisión final. Envío de los manuscritos aceptados a edición técnica.
• Agosto 2022 – Fecha límite para la publicación en línea de todos los manuscritos aceptados.

Tales fechas son sólo tentativas y pueden ser objeto de reajuste en función de la cantidad de contribuciones recibidas para este número especial. Cualquier cambio en el calendario será notificado a los autores tan pronto como sea necesario.
